Exciting News!

Harlie's communication device arrived today!!! I am SO excited!!! And so is Harlie!

She really went crazy over it. It was so great to see her so excited. And its great to be able to post some pictures of her smiling again!

Now we just have to learn to use it. Tom figured out how to change some things in just a few minutes. We recorded a "My name is Harlie" button, which is way cool. I can't wait to see her learn how to use that. And a "I am 3 years old" button. We added a button for Murphy and Cooper. Murphy got a big kick out of that. There is so much more customizing to do. But we'll have to work on it when we can concentrate. Harlie's speech therapist knows this device really well, so she will help me, too. We'll have to learn how to incorporate it into our routine. I worry about that a little. I hope this device is pretty tough. She doesn't understand to be careful. And how do I let her use it without getting her drool all over it? Ugh.

The other exciting thing is that tonight she got her LAST dose of her antibiotic! YAY! Hopefully now her hives can go away for good.

Take care!

It's great to see her smiling! How cool to have a voice. I'll be eager to see how things go for Harlie with it. I hope you'll keep updating us.

And I have to say her hair looks great! I can't see the incision at all. Did they only do one side? We are expecting ear to ear and I have a feeling we aren't going to get as lucky. She's looking really good!!!

Dara - I didn't realize you had the same device. I'm sure I'll be talking to you about it soon!

Rene and Angela - I loved the skull and cross bones the second I saw it (at one of those "shows") and knew Harlie had to have it. It seems so fitting!

Susan - yes, her incision is ear to ear. But, her hair grows in really weird patterns - and they happened to cut where the hair behind the incision grows FORWARD instead of back, like normal. So, you are right, you can barely tell. Plus, they didn't shave it where they cut - they just clipped it - so the hair is already growing back a lot. I said when she was born that I hope God would give her good hair. It's the least he can do!!

Hi Christy, my name is Teri, and I work at the Sportspage Restaurant in Hanover, and I had the absolute honor of meeting Harlie on Christmas Eve. She came in with one of your friends, they also had a daughter, and I was so fortunate to have been the next up for a table that day. There were only two of us working but it was my turn. Anyway, she is so beautiful, and determined. I asked her that day "You know you're pretty right?" and she just looked at me with the most determined look and shook her head just once, as if to say Duh I already know this! She is precious and certainly a gift from God. Please whenever you have a chance bring her back to Sportspage. I am usually always there on Saturdays and Sundays, sometimes Tuesday and Thursday! You are all in my thoughts and prayers, as well as my 15 and a half year old daughter Crissi. She thinks Harlie is gorgeous! Lots of Love! Teri and Crissi
